Perth performers score Music Theatre Masterclass

On Friday 4 May, two acclaimed members of the Australian arts industry – performer and president of Equity Simon Burke and Musical Director Daniel Edmonds – will be conducting a full day music theatre masterclass for professional performers in Western Australia, thanks to the Equity Foundation.

Open to all Equity (union) members, the masterclass will focus on music theatre techniques however, the event is tailored for both musical theatre and non-music theatre performers. Anyone wishing to be involved should register at the Equity Foundation website before close of business on Monday April 30.

If you are a film or stage performer with little or no music theatre credits this masterclass is for you. If you are a dancer who wants to work on your audition songs, this masterclass is for you. If you are a classically trained singer who would like to connect more with the text and meaning of your material this masterclass is for you. If you are a professional music theatre performer who would like to hone your skills, then… you know the drill!

Professional performers will be able to draw on Simon’s 25 years experience as a leading man in musical theatre both in Australia and the West End, as well as Daniel’s vast experience as vocal coach, accompanist and musical director.

The masterclass will cover acting through song, using individuality as a strength, crossing genres convincingly and choosing repertoire for music theatre auditions.

Each performer will be required to bring 3 songs and be prepared to work with Simon and Daniel on at least one during the masterclass at His Majesty’s Theatre.

The event is part of Equity’s professional program and is free to financial members.
