Mary Poppins Auditions continue

More than 300 children aged between 10 and 13 will audition in Melbourne over the next two weeks for the Principal roles of the Banks children, Jane and Michael, in Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular musical, Mary Poppins.

The auditions come as speculation gathers momentum regarding the casting of Mary. Contrary to reports in Melbourne newspapers on the weekend, the role has not yet been offered nor cast.

Auditions in Dance World Studios will begin on Monday, January 18 for the children’s roles and continue until the end of the month, when James Powell, Associate Director of Mary Poppins, and Geoffrey Garratt, Associate Choreographer, will fly to Melbourne to hold final auditions.

Mary Poppins will open at Her Majesty’s Theatre Melbourne in July. Rehearsals begin in Melbourne at the end of May.

Based on the beloved books by Australia’s P.L. Travers and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins is produced by Cameron Mackintosh and Thomas Schumacher, for Disney Theatrical Productions.

THE CHILDREN’S ROLES – WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR

JANE BANKS
A pretty girl, exuberant but wilful, Jane is inclined to be snobbish.  The girl who will play Jane will be between 125 and 148 cm tall and in May this year will be aged between 10 and 13

MICHAEL BANKS
Cheeky, excitable and naughty, Michael adores his father and tries to be like him. The boy who will play him will be no taller than 138 cm and aged between 10 and 12 in May.
