Griffiths, Parker and McCune among star-studded cast of controversial ‘8’ (Sydney and Melbourne)

One of the finest and most unique Australian casts will assemble to bring to life the controversial new play ‘8’, based on transcripts from the historic Proposition 8 trial in California.

Bruce Myles will direct the play in Melbourne and Sydney following critically acclaimed performances in New York and Los Angeles.

New additions to the cast include: Rachel Griffiths (Brothers and Sisters) in Victoria only, Magda Szubanski (Kath and Kim), Georgie Parker (All Saints), Catherine McClements (Rush), Gyton Grantley (Underbelly), Rachael Blake (The Straits), Martin Crewes (Dr Zhivago) and Tony Martin (Blood Brothers).

They join previously announced stars Lisa McCune, Daniel MacPherson, Shane Jacobson, Spencer McLaren, Jay Laga’aia, Angus McLaren, Blake Davis, Anthony Brandon Wong, Kate Whitbread, Rob Wardrop, Nicholas Bell, Luke Clayson, David Tredinnick and Julian Shaw.

“We are just thrilled to have the support of this wonderful cast who in turn are supporting an important cause” said producer Alex Vasilijevic.

‘8’ will premiere at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne on Friday 8 June 2012, followed by a Sydney performance at Sydney Town Hall on Saturday 9 June 2012 – playing only one show in each city. The readings will coincide with the handing down of the senate’s findings from the current enquiry on same sex marriage in Australia.

All profits from this staged reading will support Australian Marriage Equality and their fight to end marriage discrimination in Australia.

Limited Tickets are still available but selling fast – all seats are from $69.00

Melbourne tickets are at ticketek.com.au and Sydney tickets can be found on ticketmaster.com.au
