Upcoming Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’ to Feature Jaafar Jackson, Slated for 2025 Release
The highly anticipated biopic of the legendary pop icon Michael Jackson, aptly titled ‘Michael’, is set for a 2025 release. The film will feature Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, in the titular role, marking a poignant casting choice that resonates with the legacy of the music superstar.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, known for his work on ‘Training Day’, the biopic boasts a script penned by Tony winner John Logan, acclaimed for works like ‘Red’ and ‘Moulin Rouge!’. Jaafar Jackson took to Twitter to express his deep honor and humility in portraying his uncle on the big screen. “To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon,” he tweeted, acknowledging the global anticipation for the film.
The production team includes ‘MJ the Musical’ producers John Branca and John McClain, who are also the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate. They are joined by Graham King, the producer behind the successful ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. Notably, the biopic is distinct and not directly linked to ‘MJ the Musical’, the ongoing Broadway jukebox musical about Michael Jackson’s life and career.
Lionsgate, in collaboration with Universal Pictures International, has announced a targeted release date of April 28, 2025. Lionsgate will handle the film’s distribution in domestic markets and Japan, while UPI will manage distribution in other international territories. This biopic promises to offer a comprehensive and unvarnished look at the life of one of the most iconic figures in music history.
