The 2024 Olivier Awards Unveil Winners at Royal Albert Hall

The Royal Albert Hall was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the 2024 Olivier Awards, recognising the finest achievements in London’s theatrical scene. Hosted by Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham for her second consecutive year, the ceremony celebrated the talents that light up the West End and beyond.

Sunset Boulevard emerged as the night’s biggest victor, claiming seven awards including Best Musical Revival. Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis won Best Actress and Actor in a Musical for their roles in the production, under the direction of Jamie Lloyd.

Operation Mincemeat, a musical narrative that has captured the audience’s imagination, won Best New Musical along with a Best Supporting Actor in a Musical nod for Jak Malone. Meanwhile, the National Theatre secured three awards, with James Graham’s “Dear England” taking home Best New Play. Notable acting accolades went to Will Close and Mark Gatiss for their outstanding performances.

Sarah Snook was another highlight of the evening, winning Best Actress for her role in ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’. Her portrayal has been met with critical acclaim, adding to the night’s high-profile successes.

The ceremony also celebrated technical achievements; ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ won for Best Set Design and was recognized as the Best Comedy or Entertainment, showcasing the diversity of productions that the Oliviers honor.

Eleanor Lloyd, President of the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), remarked, “The Olivier Awards have once again showcased the best of London theatre and the huge talent of this incredible sector. Congratulations to all of the worthy winners and every nominee for your immense and valued contribution.”

With the glittering awards now distributed, the winners list not only reflects the current landscape of London theatre but also sets the bar for future productions, ensuring that the spirit of excellence in the performing arts continues to thrive in one of the world’s most vibrant theatrical hubs.
