Lost in the 80’s, Quebec style

The Lost Fingers

I’m a fan of the 80’s… leg warmers and ruffle skirts aside, the music really is iconic. The Lost Fingers have brought a bit of 80’s-gypsy-fusion to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and they are a unique group.

Byron Mikaloff, Christian Roberge and Alex Morisette are students of the Quebec Conservatory of Music and have been paying tribute to the music of the 80s for the past four years.  They’ve performed all around the world and bring a unique sound to well known hits. The gypsy style showcases each of these stellar musicians’ skills.

Mikaloff and Roberge on guitar demonstrate some serious fingerwork and the latter is also main vocals with a unique sound.  Morisette on bass is an element of the show to watch all by himself… he can slap that bass and the sound adds a richness to the group that is a revelation.

Hearing songs like ACDC’s ‘Thunderstruck’, Samantha Fox’s ‘Touch Me’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Billy Jean’ and Rush’s ‘Tom Sawyer’ are all clever with a cheeky sense of humour.  Unfortunately the novelty of this sound does wear off at times and can sound a bit “same same” but guessing what each song sounds like is part of the entertainment and fun.

Other than their musical skills (which are fantastic), the bilingual group really show their prowess when they sing in French. Plastic Bertrand’s ‘Ca plane pour moi’ is even better than the original.

These guys are a rare gem of musical talent that are a joy to have in Adelaide.  Spend an hour chilling out in the Space Theatre and enjoy the charms and talents of this entertaining trio.
