#FirstWorldWhiteGirls: Botox Party! is a highly entertaining, joyous show with lots of laughs. To set the mood, the cabaret opens with two young ladies in sparkling jewels, glitzy costumes, and makeup that was borrowed from a drag queen.

These ladies are BFFs ‘Tiffaney’ and ‘Maddison’ who are exploring rich kids problems such as botox, quinoa enemas, designer dogs, accidental sexting and the Refugee Diet. Being a privileged person doesn’t mean you don’t have any problems in this world. “We are too cold with air-con on and too hot with air-con off,” they moan.

As a society, that’s exactly what we are – never satisfied with what we have or appreciative of the environment around us.

This pop-culture driven show also discusses recent trends such as climate change, celebrity news, Netflix, Trump, selfies, Tinder matches, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, and other absurd superficial thoughts of Millennials like cosmetic beauty surgeries such as labia plastic, and anal bleaching.

Even the choreography had something to say. The cheerleading sequence where the girls were dancing with orange pom-poms after quoting “Trump believes orange is a new black”, speaks to how we are trapped in a world of lies and anguish.

At another point, their transition from cabaret dance style to hip hop was an engaging jolt to the senses in a moment of classic-meets-contemporary.

The obligatory audience participation segment was like a rehab session where someone talks about their own problem while the rest support and sympathise with them, adding a two-dimensional point of view to the audience.

The calibre of performances from the style queens Judy Hainsworth and Meggan Hickey were impressive. The show offered a polished package – strong vocals which blended well with classic Hollywood style choreography, resulting in a magnificently hilarious cabaret.

The amount of laughter coming from the audience from beginning to end was testament to the success of the show. The two girls, experienced in the world of cabaret really know how to handle an audience, keeping them engrossed for the entire show.

#FirstWorldWhiteGirls: Botox Party! will be playing at the Brisbane Powerhouse’s Rooftop Terrace until March 12. For more information, see the Brisbane Powerhouse website.
