Wicked The Journey from Broadway to the Big Screen

In a spellbinding evolution of storytelling, the acclaimed Broadway musical Wicked, a prequel to the classic Wizard of Oz and based on Gregory Maguires novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, is set to captivate audiences in cinemas next holiday season. Universal Pictures has ambitiously planned not one, but two major motion pictures to bring this enchanting tale to life, offering a tantalising drip-feed of details as the project progresses.

The stage production of Wicked, which debuted in 2003, saw Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel bring the roles of Glinda and Elphaba to life. This prequel unravels the intricate backstory of the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, set in a time before Dorothys arrival in Oz. The narrative delves into the unlikely friendship and subsequent rivalry between the two witches, charting a course that would forever alter their destinies and the fate of Oz.

Ariana Grande, a powerhouse in the music industry, and Tony-award-winning Cynthia Erivo are set to star as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. The films, under the direction of Jon M. Chu, known for Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights, promise to be a spectacular visual and emotional journey.

Since the announcement of the adaptation, anticipation has steadily built.
