Love Never Dies has endured both ups and downs in its relatively short life, but as the Sydney season comes to a close, the Australian cast, crew and creative team of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest musical sensation certainly have reason to celebrate.
The show has been performing to near capacity houses in Sydney during its limited 12 week season, and producer Tim McFarlane told AussieTheatre today that the show is now completely sold out for the remainder of the run in Australia.
“Love Never Dies finishes on a fantastic note with the remaining performances sold out” he said.
The Capitol Theatre season has sold incredibly well and it is understood that the remaining few tickets were snapped up yesterday afternoon.
Graeme Kearns, General Manager of the Capitol Theatre is thrilled with the success of Love Never Dies.
“We were at 101% capacity last night!”, he told AussieTheatre this morning, noting that he hardly believed such a figure to be possible!
“We are so privileged to be able to host such a wonderful production at the Capitol Theatre”.
Love Never Dies opened in Melbourne on May 18, 2011 starring WAAPA graduate Ben Lewis as the Phantom and VCA graduate Anna O’Byrne as Christine.
After a successful season at the Regent Theatre, and the filming of the DVD (which reached number 4 in the United Kingdom’s DVD charts in its debut week recently), the show transferred to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre for a limited season.
Directed by Simon Phillips (Priscilla, An Officer and a Gentleman) and designed by Gabriela Tylesova, the Australian production of Love Never Dies has been described by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber as “one of the finest productions I’ve ever seen of my work, anywhere”.
It is understood that while there are no further Australian seasons planned, the show will have a life after this Sydney season in some form. With the DVD generating such great interest around the world combined with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s incontestable rapture in the production, the next stop for Love Never Dies could be anywhere!
