Charity is a girl who is having a spectacularly bad day! Her boyfriend has dumped her – literally, taking all the money she has earned working as a ‘taxi-dancer’, and yes, that’s certainly not an occupation you want to put on your resume. These are the kind of setbacks that can really turn you into an embittered wreck or send you straight to a nunnery, but Charity is sweet, optimistic, willing to fall in love again and has lessons for us all on seeing the bright side of life.
Set in the Swinging Sixties of New York City, this show has it all – lively choreography, snappy dialogue and show-stopping numbers including the hits ‘Big Spender’, ‘Rhythm of Life’ and ‘If They Could See Me Now’. You will leave the theatre humming and tapping with a renewed zest for life.
Chatswood Musical Society is proud to produce this Broadway hit at the Zenith Theatre Chatswood, from 13th to 21st November. Playing the role made famous by Shirley MacLaine and more recently, Christina Applegate is local star, Isabella Harvey. Anne Veitch (successful Director of Thoroughly Modern Millie and Gypsy) directs this bright and bubbly production.
“I’ve always wanted to direct this show – Charity is a girl everyone can relate to and Isabelle is going to do the role proud,” Veitch said.
Anne is joined by upbeat Musical Director Bianca Zatz and Kate Dann, combining her original choreography with Bob Fosse classics.
The show opens on November 13 and has Saturday and Sunday matinees at times to suit local theatre goers, and with great prices that won’t break the budget or have the accountant shaking his head! Adult tickets are only $35, concession and students are $29 and children are $25.
