South Pacific confirmed for Brisbane

It’s official! The 7 time Tony Award winning production of South Pacific directed by Bartlett Sher will play a season in Brisbane next year.

Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Lisa McCune will star in South Pacific

The official twitter feed for the Australian production announced this morning that the show was confirmed for Brisbane in 2013. No dates have been confirmed and the venue is yet to be announced.

The Lincoln Center production of South Pacific comes to Australia after winning 7 Tony Awards in 2008 and playing sellout seasons on Broadway and the West End. Featuring a cast of 40 (starring Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes) and an orchestra double the size of most musicals, one of the most groundbreaking and beloved musicals in history is set to dazzle in its exciting new local season.

South Pacific opens at the Sydney Opera House on August 11, with previews beginning August 8. The show will then transfer to Melbourne on September 13.

A ticket wait list for Brisbane is available on the South Pacific website, which also includes ticket information for Sydney and Melbourne engagements.

  • After seeing the first preview last night I can only urge every theatre lover in the country to see this production somewhere. The sublime score is expertly played and the casting really is second to none. While unfair to single out performers Teddy Tahu Rhodes gives a world class performance. I saw the Lincoln Center production twice on Broadway but neither had me gasping in amazement as Rhodes did time and time again.
This reinforces with the right material we have the performers to give stellar performances. A credit to each and every one of a remarkable cast.
