Members of the cast of South Pacific were in Brisbane today to officially launch the third leg of the show’s tour schedule.
The production, which opened to rave reviews in Sydney this month, is set to begin performances at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC from December 27 after a previously announced season at the Princess Theatre, Melbourne.
The South Pacific company, led by opera star Teddy Tahu Rhodes and darling of the stage Lisa McCune, are currently playing to packed houses at the Sydney Opera House, with standing room only tickets available at many performances.
Directed by Bartlett Sher (who won a Tony for the direction of this production at the Lincoln Centre, New York in 2008), Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific is set on the island of Espirito Santo (Vanuatu) during World War II and was first performed on Broadway in 1949.
Tickets will go on sale for the Brisbane season soon, but a wait list is available on the show’s official website.
A return season has also been announced for Opera Australia’s season in 2013, commencing on September 12 at the Sydney Opera House. According to the show’s official twitter feed, casting has not been confirmed for 2013, but it is understood that Teddy Tahu Rhodes is available for the season.
