Sir Cameron Mackintosh confirms Les Mis is returning to Australia

After years of debate and discussion about the likelihood of a revival of the blockbuster musical Les Miserables in Australia, finally fans can rest assured – it’s coming.

Sir Cameron Mackintosh appeared as a guest on the Graham Norton Podcast over the weekend and while discussing the success of Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables for the big screen, he expanded into the future of the stage version.

You can listen to the interview here: The Graham Norton Podcast, it is the Sat 5 Jan, 13 episode. The extract below was taken from around the 25:00 minute mark.

The NEW production of Les Miserables I did for the 25th anniversary which is doing better business than the original across America and is about to open in back on Broadway, going to Tokyo, going to Australia, everywhere again. It’s mind boggling.

So it seems the flag of freedom will fly once more in Australia soon, with time, date and venue awaiting confirmation. Where do YOU think the famous Les Miserables logo (adapted from an illustration of young Cosette in Victor Hugo’s epic novel of 1862) will appear first?
