After successful seasons in Adelaide and Brisbane, Australia’s sizzling chanteuse Rhonda Burchmore brings her cabaret Cry Me A River: The World of Julie London to Melbourne for 5 performances only.
Backed by a ten piece band, Burchmore will perform at the Comedy Theatre from Thursday August 16 until Sunday August 19 as she tells the story of America’s second most popular pinup of her time (behind Marilyn Monroe), Julie London.
The 250 minute cabaret is a departure from her usual cabaret acts, which are less scripted. Being someone else’s story, the structure is more formal.
“I have to tell her story, and I can’t digress too much like I usually do!” she told AussieTheatre.
Burchmore is the first person to tell the story of Julie London in cabaret and her vocal colour and stage presence is perfect for the job.
“As I’ve got older my voice has gotten deeper, and now it’s sort of at its peak for singing these jazzy, bluesy songs”, she said.
With 37 songs Rhonda teases the audience and captures London’s style while showcasing some of her biggest hits including Cry Me A River, Let There Be Love, Saturday Night (is the Loneliest Night in the Week), ‘S Wonderful, You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To, Daddy, Black Coffee, and Hello Dolly.
