A double-bill join forces as the opener for the Queensland Theatre Company’s 2013 season. The Pitch and The China Incident are the first two plays in a trilogy written by acclaimed playwright, Peter Houghton.
Winner of a Green Room Award for Best New Australian Play, The Pitch is a one-man show ‘starring’ acting royalty including; Russell Crowe, Clint Eastwood, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Brisbane-based Director, Catarina Hebbard, is at the helm where Actor, Hugh Parker, morphs into over 30 characters, including Walter Weinermann, a bottomed-out film writer psyching himself up to pitch a movie Blockbuster to a panel of disparate producers. The only problem is he doesn’t have an ending.
In The China Incident, Barbara Lowing plays Bea Pontivec, a high-flying, power-broking spin doctor who has direct hotlines to the White House, UN and more, including a ruthless dictator. But the deeper into communication Bea goes, her professional and personal lives collide in a tumultuous ride of communication breakdown. Making his directing debut for QTC, Daniel Evans teams up with Lowing in this intense satirical one-woman-show.
The shows run from 2 February to 9 March at the Cremorne Theatre, QPAC. Tickets can be purchased from QTIX or visit qpac.com.au.
