Opera Australia announces 200 tickets to La Traviata for 200 cents

To celebrate its 200th performance of Verdi’s romantic epic La Traviata, Opera Australia is inviting you all in to celebrate – and maybe experience this story for the first time – by offering 200 tickets for 200 cents. That’s two dollars for a night at the opera!

The tickets are for the performance on Wednesday 23 February 2017.

When we reviewed this returning production of La Traviata last year, I described it as a “sumptuous, desperately romantic take on a full-hearted tragedy…. This production looks, feels, and sounds like epic, undeniable love.”

La Traviata is Verdi’s operatic take on Alexandre Dumas’ play The Lady of the Camellias, in itself an adaptation of Dumas’ novel. But you’ll recognise the beats of the story, because some of our modern romance epics are adaptations of the same work. Just little things you might have heard of, like Pretty Woman and Moulin Rouge!

Opera Australia first staged La Traviata in 1978 with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in the leading role of Violetta, then a young soprano.

You can get this $2 deal from the Sydney Opera House Box Office or the Opera Centre Surry Hills at 9:30am on Wednesday 8th February. A maximum of 2 tickets per person are available, and you can get them until they’re sold out. For more information, click here.
