NIDA’s Open Day – so rare it only happens once every two years – is an opportunity to get behind the scenes at Australia’s leading dramatic arts institute and find out more about NIDA’s courses, public programs, productions, and facilities – and it’s happening again next month.
Training ground of some of Australia’s greatest creative talents, including Cate Blanchett, Baz Luhrmann, Richard Roxburgh, Catherine Martin, and Sam Worthington – NIDA paves the way for Australia’s next generation of creative talent.
On Open Day, the insitution offers fly-on-the-wall access to all the inside action at NIDA in its theatres, film and TV studio, costume and design studios, production workshops, and rehearsal rooms.
Graduates like Home And Away‘s Lisa Gormley and Pygmalion‘s Andrea Dimitriades will share insights into their experiences both at NIDA and within the industry, and NIDA’s Heads of Departments will give talks about undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Acting, Music Theatre, Design, Production, Properties, Costume, Staging, Directing and Playwriting.
Visitors can watch students rehearshing for their upcoming production of Othello, see screen acting classes under way, watch pyrotechnics demonstrations by NIDA production crews, and get their hands dirty on tours of the props workshops and paint room floor.
The ‘NIDA Open’ program will run drop-in acting, voice, improvisation and tv presenting classes that sample the range of courses on offer for adults, teens and kids. There will be information about the corporate training programs NIDA runs for business professionals.
