New musical concert THE WHITE ROSE announces auditions

Writers Isabella Dymalovski & Oliver Thomson have announced a 60-minute concert reading of their debut musical, The White Rose.

The White Rose is an epic tale of passion, injustice, and the unwavering fortitude of humanity. Based on a heart-wrenching true story set against the backdrop of the second world war, the musical follows five young friends grappling with the consequences of living in a country fuelled by hatred and violence.

Universal in its emotional power, The White Rose highlights the endurance of hope in the darkest of times.

Writers Isabella Dymalovski and Oliver Thomson said:

We started writing this in June 2020, when we were both just nineteen years old. It started out as a project to work on during the Covid-19 lockdowns, and three years later, it has grown to be something so much bigger than we anticipated. Now, in 2023, the story of Hans and Sophie Scholl, and their friends, is unfortunately very timely. We are living in a dangerous time, where the world is becoming increasingly divided, and hostile. Right now, our queer, trans, and POC friends and family are being persecuted all over the world.

We are seeing the same fear mongering and vilification of minorities by those in power, as was used in Germany in the 1930s. This deeply unnerving reality begs the question: will you stand up for those who are unable to use their voice? For those who are drowned out by the hateful few? That, after all, was what that young group of Uni students did when they banded together and formed The White Rose. And their motto, ‘we will not be silent’, encapsulates that spirit of the fight for freedom, and justice.

Auditions are currently open for the concert until Friday June 9th at 5pm.

The White Rose has been in the making for the last 3 years by creatives,  was selected for Be You Inc.’s inaugural “Be New” program, where they were able to further develop the show along side a variety of new Australian works.

The aim of this concert is to produce a 60 minute version of the show in order to attract industry professionals and send to producers to gain funding to bring the project to life. Due to this nature, this will be a non-for-profit show and the
cast/creatives/crew will be donating their time on a volunteer basis.

“The White Rose as a story is something that really captured the both of us from the very beginning,” said Isabella and Oliver. “As a story of hope, perseverance and fighting for what you believe in, it has become more relevant than ever. We are so excited to finally share our work with the world and help start a new era of fresh Aussie work hopefully involving the next generation of fresh Aussie talent.”
