Naomi Edwards snags Patch Theatre Company’s Associate Directorship

Tough competition and a huge pool of highly qualified candidates did not deter Naomi Edwards, who has just been appointed as Patch Theatre Company’s first Associate Director.

Edwards, and the two subsequent recipients of Patch’s inaugural Artistic Director Residency Program 2013, will work closely with current Artistic Director, Dave Brown. It is an invaluable opportunity for professional development and to gain insight into the company’s operations.

Patch was inundated with applications, but Naomi Edwards was a “natural choice”.

“Naomi is an exciting director and arts educator, who has a great record of achievement in theatre-making and arts engagement through communities, partnerships and collaborations” said Dave Brown, Patch Theatre Company Artistic Director.

Edwards trained at the Victorian College of Arts and has had stints with Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company and Opera Australia. She is just as passionate about arts education and children’s theatre and is currently working on The Magic Flute and Barber of Seville for Opera Australia’s NSW and Victorian School Companies.

Edwards seized the opportunity to work with Patch, who is a recognised pioneer of children’s theatre.

“It is such an exciting opportunity. I look forward to gaining a deeper insight into their creative process and the job of leading such a successful and well respected company.”
