Amanda Muggleton, one of Australia’s leading actresses, is returning to Perth to reprise her Helpmann Award-nominated role as Deborah in the raucous one-woman hit, The Book Club. Amanda is no stranger when it comes to solo performances that sometimes raise an eyebrow, having also performed in Shirley Valentine, Educating Rita and Master Class.

Her last visit to Perth was in 2001 when she performed the lead role of Mrs Johnston in the musical, Blood Brothers.

“I always feel like Perth is my other home. I always have the best time”, Muggleton said recently.

Written by Rodney Fisher from the play by Roger Hall The Book Club tells the story of genteel housewife and mother, Deborah – and her addiction to books. With her children having flown the coop and an un-attentive husband, the spice of Deborah’s life is her book club. When a famous author joins the group for a study session, Deborah’s own life suddenly switches from an old wives’ tale to the stuff of erotic fiction. The ensuing affair takes her love of linguistics to a whole new level.

“Bringing this totally new version of The Book Club to you is going to be great. Hang on to your seats, Perth. Be afraid… be very afraid” warned Muggleton.

Directed and designed by Rodney Fisher, The Book Club will play at the Subiaco Arts Centre from June 4 – 8 June 2013.
