Over the moon: Moonshadow prepares for opening

According to the Moon Countdown, the world premiere of Moonshadow by Yusuf will take place in 2 days and anticipation is building in the lead up to Australia’s second world premiere musical this month.

The new musical epic is set to open on Thursday 31 May at the Princess Theatre Melbourne starring Gareth Keegan, Gemma-Ashley Kaplan, Blake Bowden and Jolyon James and featuring 40 of the amazing songs Yusuf penned as Cat Stevens, including Father & SonWild WorldMatthew & Son, The First Cut Is The Deepest, the title song Moonshadow.

Melbourne was chosen for the global launch of Moonshadow after Yusuf’s successful Australian concert tour of 2010. With a close connection to the city, he was convinced that Melbourne was the place he wanted his musical to begin its life.

Early responses to this world premiere musical have been mixed, as is to be expected. Fans of Cat Stevens’ music have raved about the marriage of theatre and music in the production, while theatre enthusiasts have been critical of the storyline.

It seems that everyone is agreeance about the spectacular sets and the clever design concepts in the show.

Will Melbourne critics be over-the-moon when this production opens, or will the just be over the Moon?

See the show for yourself and join in the conversation!
