Mills and Bergland will lead cast of Twisted Broadway Sydney

Rob Mills will co-host the charity event this year at Sydney'd Parade Theatre, NIDA

Twisted Broadway, music theatre’s zaniest fundraiser, have announced an incredible lineup of performers for their inaugural Sydney show next month including a co-host who is sure to draw in the crowds.

Rob Mills, Australia’s larrikin celebrity heartthrob will co-host the event with Melissa Bergland (Winners and Losers, 2012 Logie winner) for the Sydney concert at NIDA’s Parade Theatre on Monday 2 July.

The show, which features some of the country’s premiere music theatre performers singing songs originally written for the opposite gender, is fast becoming a mainstay on the music theatre calendar. A quick glace at the calibre of performers giving up their time for the cause and it’s no wonder this event has grown from boutique fundraiser to major production in just three years.

The debut Sydney line-up includes Rachel Beck and Ian Stenlake, Alex Rathgeber, Josh Piterman and Bert LaBonte from An Officer and a Gentleman, Shaun Rennie, Turanga Merito, Michael Falzon, Queenie Van De Zandt, John O’May, Tim Maddren (High 5) and a host of other exciting and talented performers.

Co-producer Daniel Benge said he is thrilled with the incredible generosity of the Australian performers involved, praising their work ethic and their creativity.

” The only thing to rival the cast list is the impressive song list we have put together”, he told AussieTheatre today. “Artists involved in Twisted Broadway suggest their own material, and together with the artists, our team collaboratively create the program”.

“From the opening number right through to Act 2 Finale, the show is going to be an amazing ride!”

The one night only concert will be remounted in Melbourne on Monday 23 July, this time with showbiz stalwart Rhonda Burchmore as co-host. Full cast details for the Melbourne concert will be announced shortly, but it is understood that the majority of the performances will be exclusive to each city.

All proceeds from Twisted Broadway 2012 will go to Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, a charity formed as a result of the Australian entertainment industry’s dedication to those living with and those touched by HIV/AIDS.
