Legally Blonde: More casting rumours circulate

David Harris, Lucy Durack, Rob Mills

As is the case in the lead up to any new musical, the rumour mill is overflowing with speculation about principal casting for 2012’s much anticipated blockbuster; Legally Blonde The Musical.

According to an article in Brisbane’s Courier Mail, Lucy Durack, Rob Mills and David Harris have been cast in the lead roles of Elle Woods, Warner and Emmett in the musical which is set to open at the Lyric Theatre, The Star on October 4 2012.

But producer John Frost has told AussieTheatre.com that the casting process for Legally Blonde is far from complete.

“I’m thrilled that the rumours are appearing thick and fast, but we still have not finished casting principals let alone contracting them”, he said.

AussieTheatre.com can confirm that Wicked Australia’s original Glinda, Durack, was indeed in the final casting mix for Elle, making the trip to New York to audition personally for Director/Choreographer Jerry Mitchell late last year, (see full article here).

If the casting rumours for the ‘big three’ are true, then Durack will be completely at home performing with two of her leading men from Wicked. Rob Mills was cast as the original Fiyero in Wicked Australia, and David Harris is currently performing the role in Wicked Singapore.

“There’s been quite a lot of speculation in the press and online over the past few months about the Legally Blonde cast which has made interesting reading”, a spokesperson for the musical told AussieTheatre.com this morning.

The musical’s casting should be complete within the next month, ahead of an official launch on February 27. It is understood that the NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell will make the announcement.
