Jessica Pratt exclusive CD release at Mad Scenes Concert

Australian soprano Jessica Pratt will perform a one night only solo concert of operatic divas’ maddest scenes on 3 August in the newly refurbished Concert Hall as part of the Sydney Opera House’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

To mark the occasion Pratt’s latest CD, which features recordings of her singing the Mad Scenes concert repertoire with Florence Opera, will have an exclusive Australian pre-release on the night of the performance. Titled Delirio, Pratt is generously giving a copy to all members of the audience.

An internationally successful soprano with a “gleaming sound, free and easy high notes, agile coloratura runs and lyrical grace” – New York Times, Pratt will perform some of the most dramatic, heartbreaking, and impressive bel canto repertoire.

The program includes some of the most vocally demanding arias by Bellini and Donizetti, with excerpts from La Sonnambula, Emilia di Liverpool, I Puritani, Linda di Chamounix and Lucia di Lammermoor. The selection shines a spotlight on the love, loss, revenge, and delusion that drive opera’s most iconic female characters’ descents into madness.

Sydney Morning Herald:

Known for her portrayal of the emotionally fragile Lucia di Lammermoor, which she has performed more than 100 times in opera houses across the globe, Pratt’s Lucia at the Sydney Opera House in 2018 “was a tour-de-force of vocal polish, broaching stratospheric heights.

Pratt will be accompanied by the Opera Australia Orchestra, conducted by Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser of Queensland Symphony Orchestra Johannes Fritzsch. Showcasing the incredible talent of these musicians, the Orchestra will also play a few interludes of stunning music by Verdi and Mascagni.

A long-time resident of Italy, Pratt’s visit to Australia offers locals the rare opportunity to witness her astonishing artistic abilities in a live solo performance. Self-recorded and produced, Pratt will officially launch the album to the rest of the world in September in Florence, Italy.

Pratt is currently attracting great acclaim for her performance in the world premiere of OA’s new production of The Tales of Hoffmann in the Joan Sutherland Theatre.

The Mad Scenes Concert is supported by the Sydney Opera House Trust as part of the 50th Anniversary program of events.
