Jersey Boys returns home: Melbourne season begins this weekend

Declan Egan, Jeff Madden, Anthony Harkin and Glaston Toft will star in the return season of Jersey Boys

The wait is nearly over! On Saturday 12 January, the Australian cast of Jersey Boys will officially celebrate their return season to Melbourne’s Princess Theatre with a gala Opening Night performance.

Jersey Boys opened at the Princess Theatre in July 2009, playing a 13 month season before transferring to Sydney, Auckland, Brisbane and Adelaide and injecting millions of dollars into the country’s economy through tourism related revenue.

Producer Rodney Rigby feels a sense of symmetry about the homecoming of this smash hit musical.

“I am thrilled that Jersey Boys will once again perform at the Princess Theatre – this is where it all began” said Rigby.

“Jersey Boys has now played three and a half phenomenal years across Australia and New Zealand mirroring its success internationally” he said.

Jersey Boys has been confirmed as the 18th longest running Broadway show in history, winning four Tony Awards. The UK production won Best New Musical at the 2009 Olivier Awards and the Original Cast Album won a 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

The Australian production won two Helpmann Awards (Best Musical and Best Music Direction of a Musical) and seven Green Room Awards.

Original Australian cast member Glaston Toft will be returning home as bassman Nick Massi, a role he has performed for over three years with the Jersey Boys tour. Joining him will be Jeff Madden and Graham Foot (alternating Frankie Valli), Anthony Harkin (Tommy De Vito) and Declan Egan (Bob Gaudio), completing the Four Seasons – one of America’s biggest pop sensations of all time.

Rodney Rigby is certain that the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons has captured the hearts of a new generation.

“The Four Seasons’ music and their story have found a new audience, and they are definitely in the hearts of over 1.4 million Australians and New Zealanders.”

Melbourne’s return season is strictly limited – don’t miss your chance to see the Jersey Boys in action!

Jersey Boys is set to tour to Perth from April 13 and it is understood that the show will be put to bed once the Western Australian leg is complete. At the end of the Perth season, cast and crew will have enjoyed an incredible run of nearly four years working on this blockbuster musical.
