As reported by AussieTheatre.com several weeks ago, Hugh Jackman will be starring in the new film version of Boublil and Schönberg’s musical Les Miersables, based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo.
“I do have a desire to do a movie musical. Looks like that’s coming true because I’m gonna do Les Miserables, the movie version of it, next year. I’m excited. That’s something I need to bring my A-game for,” he told a Canadian radio station earlier this week.
Jackman will be playing the coveted role of Jean Valjean (prisoner 24601) and will start filming in 2012. The movie will be directed Tom Hooper who is not unaccustomed to working with Australian actors. Hooper won an Academy Award for his direction of The King’s Speech, starring Australian actor, Geoffrey Rush.
