The roles of the Phantom and Christine in Love Never Dies, the continuing story of The Phantom of the Opera, have been cast. Ben Lewis and Anna O’Byrne, in those roles, are ready to go into rehearsal with the cast in April.
But the role of Christine and Raoul’s son Gustave is still to be filled. And on the weekend of February 26 and 27, in Melbourne, hundreds of boys are expected to audition for the chance to star in the musical.
They will crowd into the Malthouse from 1.30pm on Saturday and the last of them will be heard on Sunday afternoon.
Gustave is a boy with an exquisite soprano voice, and Love Never Dies Musical Supervisor Guy Simpson, and Associate Director, Rainer Fried, will be looking for five boys to alternate in the role.
“We want boys with good and strong singing voices and some confidence to play Gustave on his journey around the wonders of Coney Island,” Rainer said.
And Guy Simpson: “We are looking for boys with strong singing voices – a pure treble sound and a ‘chest’ sound. Good pitch and musicality are essential.”
