Hobson, Beck confirmed! Principal cast announced for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, we love you!

The principal cast of TML’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was officially announced this afternoon at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre by Producer Tim Lawson and director Roger Hodgman.

Set to open at the Capitol on 16 November this year, it has been confirmed that Australian tenor David Hobson and darling of the stage Rachael Beck will lead the company in the roles of Caratacus Potts and Truly Scrumptious.

Actress and singer Jennifer Vuletic (Mamma Mia!) will appear as Baroness Bomburst/Miss Phillips while veteran of the Australian stage, Peter Carroll (Dr Zhivago, The Man Of La Mancha) will play Grandpa Potts.

Most famous for his role on the favourite ABC music game show Spicks and Specks, music whiz Alan Brough joins the company as Baron Bomburst/Lord Scrumptious.

The Vulgarian spy Goran will be played by George Kapiniaris, well known for his role as Memo in popular Australian comedy Acropolis Now and Australia’s longest running stage comedy Wogs Out Of Work.

Versatile and accomplished performer Tyler Coppin (Helpmann Award winner for STC’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) will play Child Catcher/Junkman.

Based on the 1968 MGM film of the same name Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is an action packed musical which features a company of over 70 (including eight dogs!) and over 500 costumes and hats. The show centres on Old Chitty, the magical car that sails the seas and flies through the air. Chitty’s eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, and his two children join the truly scrumptious Truly Scrumptious and kooky Grandpa Potts in outwitting the dastardly Baron and Baroness of Vulgaria in their attempt to steal the flying car for themselves.

Cutting edge technology has been utilised to design this touring production of Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang, which will play for 10 weeks at the Capitol Theatre and 10 weeks at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne, allowing the elegantly crafted antique car to ‘fly’.

All the original Sherman brothers songs from the film will be featured in the musical, as well as some new songs for the production.

Set to be one of the most exciting family musicals of the 2012-2013 season, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is already creating a stir at the box office and via word of mouth.
