It is a Happy New Year for lovers of musicals and cabaret! The newly formed Hayes Theatre Co have moved in to their premises on Greenknowe Avenue in Potts Point this morning and Sydney’s music theatre ecosystem just got a whole lot more exciting.

Collecting the keys to the Hayes Theatre Co this morning

The company –  a collaborative partnership between several notable organisations that currently make or facilitate music theatre, cabaret, and small scale musicals in Sydney – has been awarded the lease of the old “Darlo” theatre by the City of Sydney to create a home for music theatre and cabaret in Sydney. Renamed the Hayes Theatre after Australian theatrical icon and Potts Point local Nancye Hayes, the venue will now become a hub for artists to share knowledge, resources, and to create, develop, and nurture new work in musical theatre and cabaret.

The first show to be presented at the new venue will be Sweet Charity, starring Verity Hunt-Ballard (Mary Poppins) opening on 7 February 2014.

Tickets are now on sale for the production here!

AussieTheatre is proud to be partnering the Hayes Theatre Co throughout 2014 – watch this space for more news from the home of Sydney’s freshest and most exciting new arts collective!
