The hit musical Hairspray has closed in Melbourne after a 7 month run at the Princess Theatre. The cast are now on a 5 week break before they begin work at the Lyric Theatre for the long awaited Sydney season. Opening on Thursday 23 June, the show will again feature Jaz Flowers in the role of Tracy Turnblad, Scott Irwin as Corney Collins, So You Think You Can Dance winner, Jack Chambers as Link Larkin, Grant Piro as Wilbur Turnblad and Marney McQueen as the villainous Velma Von Tussle.
Not forgetting the fabulous Trevor Ashley – the most prolific performer in the Australian theatre industry – who will reprise the role of Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s mother. Trevor Ashley, one of the stars of the musical has said on Twitter: “Our final performance of Hairspray in Melbourne… It’s gone so quickly. Thanks to all of you who made it along… We’ll miss the Princess Theatre.”
