Francesca Moody, the Olivier Award-winning producer known for her work on ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ with Paul Mescal and ‘Fleabag’ with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is considering bringing ‘Baby Reindeer’ back to the theater. The show, a one-man play by Richard Gadd that served as the basis for the popular Netflix series, was previously staged at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival in 2019 and the Bush Theatre in London. Plans to move it to the Ambassadors Theatre were halted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With ‘Baby Reindeer’ currently holding the top spot on Netflix’s global chart—boasting 18.6 million viewers in the last four weeks—the stage show’s return could capitalize on its newfound streaming success. Gadd’s intense 65-minute performance recounts his real-life experiences with a stalker, a story that resonates deeply with audiences.
The series follows the fictional comedian Donny Dunn, who is pursued by a woman named Martha after a chance meeting. Gadd, who recently toured Los Angeles for promotions, shared his astonishment over the show’s massive impact, noting it transitioned from a potential niche favorite to a global phenomenon.
Currently, Gadd is preparing to film ‘Lions,’ a six-part drama for the BBC set in Glasgow, which explores the lives of two brothers over several decades.
