Mousetrap Sydney season 90% sold

The Mousetrap will celebrate it’s official opening night tonight in Sydney and according to Producer Louise Withers, the season is already 90% sold, with the remaining seats set to sell out in a matter of days.

This unmitigated success is a clear-cut indication of the timeless appeal of Agatha Christie’s famous ‘Whodunit’ play, whose 60 year West End season cements the piece as the longest running show of any kind in the world.

“With 90 percent of tickets for the Sydney season sold before opening we’re delighted with the way in which Sydney theatregoers have embraced this new Australian production in celebration of the show’s Diamond Anniversary”, said Louise Withers yesterday.

The all-Australian touring production is one of 60 professional companies that have been assembled worldwide in celebration of The Mousetrap’s 60th Anniversary. The show has played over 24, 000 performances on London’s West End, having delighted audiences spanning many generations.

Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen, Producer of the Mousetrap in London since 1994 will be in attendance at the official opening night in Sydney this evening.

The Mousetrap will be produced in Australia by Michael Coppel, Louise Withers, Linda Bewick in association with Adrian Barnes by arrangement with Mousetrap Productions Ltd London.

Mollie and Giles Ralston (Christy Sullivan, Gus Murray), the young owners of the once-regal estate recently converted into a guesthouse hardlynotice the news. They are far too busy preparing for the arrival of their first guests and concerned that the heavy snowfalls may prevent the guests reaching their destination. As the guests arrive safely and the Manor becomes snowed in, a policeman, Sergeant Trotter (Justin Smith) arrives on skis suspecting that one of the seven occupants may be the killer.   After a second murder occurs in the Manor, Trotter is convinced.  Suspects include the young married couple, Miss Casewell (Jacinta John), a spinster with a curious background and the eccentric Christopher Wren (Travis Cotton). Also under suspicion are an unpleasant and difficult guest, Mrs. Boyle (Linda Cropper), as well as the retired Major Metcalf (Nicholas Hope), and Mr. Paravicini (Robert Alexander), an unexpected visitor who claims his car has run into a snowdrift.   During his interrogation, Sergeant Trotter uncovers the many mysterious secrets of everyone present, as he tries to solve the murder in true Christie style.
