ELF THE MUSICAL announces Melbourne Premiere for November 2026

Christmas has come early with the announcement that Elf The Musical will premiere in Melbourne in the new theatre, CROWN LIVE, from 27 November 2026.

Tickets go on sale to the general public this coming Friday, 24 July at 9:00am from Ticketmaster.

Following its smash-hit Australian premiere season at the Sydney Opera House in 2024, the heart-warming musical heads to Melbourne, bringing holiday magic and Christmas cheer to audiences this festive season.

Elf The Musical, inspired by the beloved Christmas film starring Will Ferrell, is the hilarious and heartwarming story of Buddy, a young orphan whose life is changed forever when he mistakenly crawls into Santa’s sack of toys one Christmas Eve. Raised as an elf at the North Pole, Buddy finally discovers he is human and sets off on a journey to New York City to find his birth father. Along the way he must come to terms with a father on Santa’s naughty list, win over a skeptical half-brother who doesn’t believe in Santa, and help restore the magic of Christmas.

This full-scale Broadway musical features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway, The Wedding Singer). The story comes to life with a book by Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

Featuring a stellar Australian cast and creative team, the Australian production of Elf The Musical is directed by Eric Giancola, with choreography by Mitchell Woodcock, and music direction by Vicky Jacobs.

Gareth Isaac will reprise the lead role of Buddy, for which he received rave reviews. Further cast announcements will be made in coming months.

Australian producer John Frost said, “I’m thrilled to be bringing Elf The Musical back to Australia and to open the brand-new theatre, CROWN LIVE, with such a spectacular production. This new production is bigger, brighter and more magical than ever, with spectacular staging, larger-than-life production numbers and plenty of Christmas surprises! It’s a joyful, feel-good show filled with holiday magic – the perfect way to celebrate the Christmas season and experience a large-scale Broadway show.”

A festive sensation around the world, Elf The Musical has captivated audiences of all ages. The AU Review said of the Australian production, “Elf The Musical may just be the Christmas wish you’re looking for!” Time Out added that, “Gareth Isaac is a hoot as Buddy the Elf” and Broadway World described it as “a live theatre treat for all the family!”.
