Doors Open at Queensland Performing Arts for Brisbane Open House

Brisbane Open House

Held annually in conjunction with World Architecture Day, Brisbane Open House is a free event that provides residents and visitors an opportunity to peek behind the scenes of some of Brisbane’s historic buildings and closed-to-the-public spaces.

The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) has participated in Brisbane Open House consecutively since its launch in 2010 and this year QPAC’s door will open on Saturday October 11 and promises to be bigger than ever.

Every fifteen minutes from 9am-12 noon, free guided tours will take visitors through the Lyric Theatre (currently showing The Lion King), the Concert Hall, the Playhouse and the Cremorne Theatre as well as a tour through the scenery dock.

The Art of The Lion King can be enjoyed between 9am and 4pm at the Tony Gould Gallery; A free exhibition curating a selection of unique items never before seen in Australia. The collection brings together text, images and video with set models, character maquettes and costumes to trace the development of the Disney production.

QPAC Artists in residence, the Southern Cross Soloists have an open rehearsal (10am-12 noon) in the Concern Hall foyer and the QYO Big Band will play Jazz for patrons on the Melbourne Street Green (10am-1pm). These are just some of the highlights of the QPAC Open House, for more information go to brisbaneopenhouse.com.au

Brisbane Open House is part of the Open House Worldwide family and is an initiative of the Office of the Queensland Government Architect, the Brisbane Development Association and the National Trust of Australia (Queensland).
