Clancestry – Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s First Nations arts and culture festival – began last night with the free event, First Gathering, held on the banks of the Brisbane River.
First Gathering is a celebration of the vibrant First Nations cultures of Brisbane and marks the opening of the Clancestry festival in 2023. This event invites attendees to pay respects to the ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy in an hour-long celebration of dance, song and culture.
Overlay features a Welcome to Country from Shannon Ruska from Tribal Experiences, plus a performance from Butchella songman Fred Leone and the Kutaw Zoeru dancers from Boigu Island in the Torres Strait, now based in Brisbane.
