The full cast of flowerchildren – the Mamas and the Papas Story has been announced.  Featuring Matt Hetherington (Next to Normal) as Papa John, Laura Fitzpatrick as Mama Michelle, Dan Humpris as Papa Deny and Casey Donovan (of Australian Idol fame) as Mama Cass, the Theatreworks’ production of Flowerchildren, will play from 29 August at Theatreworks, St Kilda.
flowerchildren is a new musical, written by Peter Fitzpatrick, about the turbulent private lives of the American vocal group The Mamas and The Papas. The show takes place between their spectacular rise to fame in 1966 and their tragic demise only four years later, in 1970. Exploring the themes of distrust, dangerous passions, and unhealthy co-dependencies the musical showcases a group who left a legacy of timeless hits such as ‘Monday Monday’, ‘Creeque Alley’, ‘Words of Love’, and the iconic ‘California Dreamin’.
Magnormos, who have just recently completed their second annual T assisted the early development of flowerchildren in 2009 with a workshop presentation to invited industry peers, and will now be presenting the world premiere public season at Theatre Works for a strictly limited engagement. The show will be directed by Aaron Joyner, with musical direction by Sophie Thomas and choreography by Penny Palman. Also featuring Jessica Featherby as Jill, Jack Feehan as Gene, Tim Carney as Lou and, Zuleika Khan as Linda.
