Broadway Awaits Young Aussie Performers!

Now that the world is opening back up, the Junior Theatre Festival Australia, in partnership with Music Theatre International Australasia and Travel Gang are inviting Australia’s most outstanding young musical theatre talent to audition for one of only 20 prestigious positions on this ultimate USA musical theatre performance adventure!

The Aussie All-Stars will travel as a group during the 2023 January school holidays to New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles. One of the key experiences the successful young performers will enjoy is the opportunity to immerse themselves in the New York lifestyle of a professional Broadway artist. Each day students will work collaboratively to develop and rehearse a performance piece under the guidance and direction of industry experts and performers. Rehearsals will be held at the Ripley Grier Studios on 8th Avenue, in the heart of New York City. All-Stars will also be exposed to Broadway musicals, talk-back sessions with Broadway performers, exclusive performance workshops, masterclasses and of course will have enough time to explore the iconic sights of New York.

Then, traveling to Atlanta, Aussie All-Stars will join thousands of like-minded young performers from all over the world at the Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) presented by iTheatrics. There, they will represent Australia by presenting their performance that has been created and rehearsed in New York the previous week. The Junior Theatre Festival will also see the cast attend skills development workshops presented by the world’s best teaching artists, watch performances of brand new musicals and get advice from celebrity guests (past celebrities have included Olivia Rodrigo, Zac Efron, Stephen Schwatrz, Pasek and Paul, Megan Hilty, Casey Levy and Darren Criss).

After JTF in Atlanta, All-Stars head west to Los Angeles, where they enjoy: time at Universal Studios, including an exclusive back-lot tour onto the set of hundreds of well-known films; spending time on Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk Of Fame; two full days of magic at the happiest place on earth…Disneyland, including a behind the scenes Disney Performing Arts workshop, and of course, rides, rides and more rides.

Past Aussie All-Stars and their families have said:

“a unique, one-of-kind program that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!” – Michael Jenkins (father of Samuel Jenkins, 2020 Aussie All-Star Alumni)

“Seeing the look on my child’s face has just been priceless!” – Sylvia Elliott (mother of Jorja Elliott, 2020 Aussie All-Star Alumni)

Parents and siblings over the age of 5 are invited to join the adventure as chaperones to cheer on the young Aussie team of musical theatre performers!

Auditions are now open, but close very soon on Monday 21st February, 2022. Young people are required to submit a self-tape audition. This consists of performing the provided monologue, plus one song of their choice, that they feel best showcases who they are as a performer and an individual.

The 20 strong ensemble of Aussie All-Stars will depart for the USA in early January 2023.

The Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) is the world’s biggest and best celebration of young people performing musical theatre.

JTF brings together student musical theatre troupes from all over the world for a weekend of musical theatre mayhem and madness. Each troupe performs a Broadway Junior®️ show for adjudication by a panel of musical theatre experts. The weekend also features workshops for students, a New Works Showcase featuring new musical adaptations soon to be released and concludes with a grand finale concert headlined by Broadway’s best!

The Junior Theatre Festival is sponsored by Playbill, Disney Musicals, and Music Theatre International.
