Aladdin and his Wondrous Lamp.
Following the successful 2014 production of Snow White – Winter Family Musical in Sydney, Bonnie Lythgoe and Bonnie Lythgoe Productions have announced their next panto: Aladdin and his Wondrous Lamp.
An updated version of the classic fairytale, Aladdin and his Wondrous Lamp will be re-tailored and re-told for Australian audiences. Billed as a “singing, swinging and soaring spectacular adventure,” the show will feature family friendly comedy and magic designed to appeal to all ages. It’s a fun, traditional, British panto.
The show will feature new characters, plenty of celebrities, and even a change in the weather.
“I am over the moon to be bringing panto back to Australia because I never thought we would have this overwhelming feeling about panto here. One of my real loves is the subject Aladdin which I believe is the perfect show to bring down under” said Bonnie Lythgoe.
The old tale of Aladdin will also feature contemporary hits, like “Treasure” by Bruno Mars, “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift, “Chains” by Tina Arena, and “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay. There will also be plenty of local cultural references in the script.
Bonnie has been staging pantos in the USA with huge success for a number of years. She has already produced Snow White and Aladdin there, and her latest production, Sleeping Beauty and her Winter Knight, will premiere at the Pasadena Playhouse in LA from December 10, 2014.
Showbiz names including Sir Cliff Richard, Kyle Sandilands, Magda Szubanski, Jimmy Rees, Peter Everett and Josh Adamson all starred in Lythgoe’s Snow White – Winter Family Musical earlier this year at the State Theatre, receiving rave reviews from both the critics and public alike.
Aladdin and his Wondrous Lamp will be held at the State Theatre in Sydney with performances running from Friday, 4 July through until and including Sunday, 12 July 2015.
Tickets for will go on sale to the public on Monday, 17 November 2014 through Ticketmaster.com.au.
