Mark it in the diary, Sydney! The Bodyguard musical is heading to Australia from April 2017 and its first stop is Sydney!
It is understood that the multi-million dollar musical, based on the 1992 film of the same name starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, will undertake an Australian tour in 2017 although dates and venues are yet to be confirmed.
The show includes a host of Whitney Houston’s greatest hits including ‘Queen of the Night’, ‘One Moment in Time’, ‘Saving All My Love’, ‘Greatest Love Of All’, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ and one of the greatest hit songs of all time – ‘I Will Always Love You’.
The Bodyguard had its world premiere at London’s Adelphi Theatre on November 6 2012, running for almost two years. Subsequent productions have since opened in Germany and the Netherlands as well as a successful UK tour, West End revival and an upcoming US tour.
Australian producer John Frost was a co-producer of the original production and is thrilled to be co-producing the show for its Australian premiere.
“I’m thrilled to that Australia will finally get to see this sensational, multi-million-dollar musical,” said John Frost on behalf of his co-producers.
“When David Ian approached me in 2012 to co-produce the world premiere in London, I jumped at the chance to be involved. This iconic story and those soaring ballads were itching to be made into a stage musical, and its success over the past four years has proved it. The original production was extended many times with audiences flocking to the show, and the subsequent UK tour has broken box office records at most of the theatres where it’s played. I know Australian audiences will love THE BODYGUARD as much as I do.”
