Avenue Q cast announced for Melbourne run

Musical theatre favourites Ross Hannaford (CATS, Sweeney Todd), Sophie Wright (Wicked, Follies in Concert), Sun Park (Hi-5, Mamma Mia!), Vincent Hooper (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Heathers) and Lulu McClatchy are among the leading cast announced this week for a new production of Avenue Q, set to open at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne in August 2016. Supporting cast members include Amberley Cull, Andrew Hondromatidis, Zuleka Khan and Ben Adams.

The adult puppet show won the triple crown (Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book) at the 2004 Tony Awards and ran on Broadway for over 2,500 performances before moving to Off Broadway in 2009 where it is still playing.

Often referred to as “Sesame Street for adults”, this puppet show is definitely not for kids. The show follows the lives of the inhabitants of Avenue Q, a neighbourhood of New York where puppets and humans live together, as they experience failed childhood stardom, excessive drinking, moving in and out of the slummy neighbourhood, investing, mix-tapes, cute creatures doing bad things, finding your purpose, and falling in love.

The Production will be directed by Peter J Snee, choreographed by Robert Lewis and the musical director is Trevor Jones.
