Annie: Previews commence in Sydney

The ever popular Broadway musical Annie will light up Sydney’s Lyric Theatre from tonight at 8pm.

This brand new production stars Anthony Warlow, Nancye Hayes, Todd McKenney, Chloe Dallimore, Julie Goodwin, Alan Jones as President Roosevelt, a talented ensemble of Australia’s finest performers and three casts of 8 girls as the ‘orphans’ and Annie.

The gala opening night is scheduled for Thursday January 5, ahead of a strictly 12 week season and Producer John Frost revealed that 60, 000 advance tickets have already been sold for the Sydney season.

Needless to say, Frost is thrilled with the production, which is based on the popular comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” by Harold Gray.

Annie has always been a firm favourite of mine, and ever since the production that I was involved with in 2000, people have been asking me when it is returning” he said.

Anthony Warlow as Daddy Warbucks

Annie is one of the most beloved Broadway musicals of all time and won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical for the original production. This beautiful new production with this extraordinary A list cast will be warmly received I’m sure. Australians are hungry for good quality entertainment and Annie delivers this in spades.”

Annie burst into popularity in 1977 when it opened on Broadway, and since then it has played in over 22 countries worldwide including the UK, Argentina, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Spain and Australia. Annie became a smash-hit movie musical in 1982 starring Aileen Quinn (a swing performer in the Broadway production), Albert Finney and Carol Burnett that is adored worldwide and a fixture of popular culture references.

34 years on, Annie remains one of the most loved and universally appealing musicals of all time.
