The theatre world’s best known composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, has been diagnosed with cancer.

A statement issued by Lloyd Webber’s spokesperson confirmed he is battling prostate cancer, but it is hoped the condition has been caught early and he will be able to fully recover.

Lloyd Webber recently announced plans for a sequel to his best known work, The Phantom Of The Opera. Called Love Never Dies, it is due to open on the West End in March next year and in Australia in 2011.
