Australian Aladdin cast announced

Disney’s beloved animated movie Aladdin was a critical box office smash when it was released, grossing over $500 million worldwide (not adjusted for inflation) and becoming the highest-grossing film of 1992.

24 years later, the well-known story of street urchin Aladdin, his Genie and his Princess Jasmine is coming to Australia’s live stages and the cast have been confirmed for the latest Disney Theatrical Productions mega musical.

Newcomer Ainsley Melham will be making his mainstage debut in the title role of Aladdin. Ainsley is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and is soon to star in Xanadu at Hayes Theatre Co.

The leading female role of Princess Jasmine has not been cast at this point and a search to fill the role is continuing.

The principal cast features Melbourne-born international musical theatre star Adam Jon Fiorentino (Saturday Night Fever, Mary Poppins) as Kassim, stage and television performer Adam Murphy (The Drowsy Chaperone, Forum) as Jafar and Robert Tripolino in the role of Omar. Filling out the principal ranks is one of Australia’s most accomplished character actors and musical theatre stars Troy Sussman as Babkak and stage and television actor Aljin Abella as Iago.

Erin James

Erin James is AussieTheatre.com's former Editor in Chief and a performer on both stage and screen. Credits include My Fair Lady, South Pacific and The King and I (Opera Australia), Love Never Dies and Cats (Really Useful Group), Blood Brothers (Enda Markey Presents), A Place To Call Home (Foxtel/Channel 7) and the feature film The Little Death (written and directed by Josh Lawson).
