Opera Australia offers 200 tickets for 200 cents to celebrate The Barber of Selville’s 200th anniversary

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the world’s most loved comedic opera, Rossini’s The Barber of Selville, Opera Australia is offering 200 tickets for 200 cents for under 30 year olds.

Rossini’s The Barber of Selville premiered in 1816 and has gone on to become an international hit. With its fast-pace and quick wit, it is one of the most accessible operas and a perfect first taste for those new to the art form.

From 9AM on Friday 19 February, Opera Australia will release 200 tickets to The Barber of Selville for 200 cents each, available for purchase by anyone aged under 30. Tickets are for performances on 10, 12, 14 or 16 March and can only be purchased in-person at the Opera Australia Sydney box office at 480 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills. Tickets on sale until 4pm or until sold out.

If you miss out this time, don’t worry! Opera Australia has ongoing accessible programs including Student Ticket offers and the Wakil Foundation Access Program.

In conjunction with this offer, Opera Australia is partnering with World’s Greatest Shave to support the Leukaemia Foundation. Opera Australia will donate $18.16 from every full priced ticket bought during the season to the Leukaemia Foundation.

Chris McMillan, General Manager from the Leukaemia Foundation, encourages audiences to follow Figaro’s lead and register to shave or colour their hair ahead of shave weekend March 10-13. If that’s too big a commitment, buy a ticket for the opera! Money from your ticket will go towards counselling, information services, accommodation and transport during treatment, and research programs to find a cure.

So there’s never been a better reason to go to the opera! The Barber of Seville is at the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House until March 22.
