West End’s Moulin Rouge! The Musical announces new cast members

The renowned ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ at London’s Piccadilly Theatre is set to see some fresh faces in its cast.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic early 20th-century film that depicted a tale of romance between a Parisian courtesan and a writer, previously portrayed by Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, the film adaptation garnered significant acclaim, bagging two wins from its eight Oscar nominations at the 74th Academy Awards.

Starting 16 October 2023, Tanisha Spring, previously seen in ‘Groundhog Day,’ will assume the primary role of Satine, which she had played on occasion in the past. Dom Simpson, having showcased his talents in ‘The Book of Mormon’, will be transitioning from the Prince of Wales Theatre to adopt the character of Christian at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Director Alex Timbers conveyed his enthusiasm about introducing Tanisha Spring and Dom Simpson as the main leads for the musical’s third year in London. He praised Dom’s notable accomplishments in musical theatre and anticipates a heartfelt rendition of Christian from him. He also expressed delight at welcoming back Tanisha, who was an integral part of the initial West End cast. Her exceptional skills and charisma are sure to captivate the audiences in her role as Satine.

The current ensemble featuring Matt Rixon, Ian Carlyle, and Ben Richards will persist in their roles. Additionally, the musical will introduce Ivan De Freitas and Charlotte Gooch in significant parts, supported by Anthony Cragg, Hannah Jay-Allan, Rochelle Sherona, Bernadette Bangura, and Angela Marie Hurst, with Hurst occasionally stepping into the role of Satine.

Other performers, such as Erin Bell, Emily Bolland, Ross Chisari, and more, will also be contributing to the theatre experience.

The production, directed by Timbers, has its script penned by John Logan, with choreography by Sonya Tayeh and musical direction from Justin Levine. The creative team behind the scenes consists of talents like Derek McLane, Catherine Zuber, Justin Townsend, among others, responsible for the musical’s captivating design. The casting has been orchestrated by Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher CDG.
