The highly anticipated The Devil Wears Prada musical opens tonight at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End. Based on the hit 2006 film, the stage adaptation features a powerhouse creative team, including music by Sir Elton John (Billy Elliot) and Shaina Taub (Suffs), a book by Kate Wetherhead (Burlesque the Musical), and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots).
The musical tells the story of Andy, a young woman who lands a coveted job at a high-profile fashion magazine under the rule of the fearsome editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly. As Andy sacrifices her personal life for career success, she begins to question whether it’s all worth it.
Vanessa Williams stars as Miranda Priestly, with WhatsOnStage Award winner Matt Henry playing Nigel, a role made famous in the film by Stanley Tucci. The cast also features Georgie Buckland as Andy, Amy Di Bartolomeo as Emily, James Darch as Christian, and Rhys Whitfield as Nate. Debbie Kurup joins the production as the standby for Miranda Priestly.
The production boasts an impressive design team, with sets by Tim Hatley (Back to the Future), costumes by Gregg Barnes (Legally Blonde), lighting by Bruno Poet (Tina – The Tina Turner Musical), and sound by Gareth Owen (& Juliet). Casting for the London production was led by WhatsOnStage Award winner Jill Green.
The musical had its UK premiere earlier this year in Plymouth and has been eagerly awaited in London. With a star-studded cast and creative team, The Devil Wears Prada is set to be one of the hottest tickets in town.
