Back to the Future: The Musical to Close on Broadway After Over 500 Performances

Back to the Future: The Musical, based on the iconic 1985 sci-fi film, has announced its final Broadway performance. The high-energy show will conclude its run at the Winter Garden Theatre on January 5, 2025, after more than 500 performances.

With a book by the film’s co-writer Bob Gale and new music by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, the musical has entertained audiences with a mix of original songs and fan favorites like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.” Since its Broadway debut, the production has generated $80 million in ticket sales and attracted over 900,000 audience members.

While the Broadway chapter ends, the show continues its global journey. International productions are set to launch in Germany and Japan, and Back to the Future will soon hit the high seas as part of an eight-year deal with Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas starting in August 2025.

The musical is still running strong in London’s West End and on a North American tour. It was awarded the 2022 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical, a testament to its broad appeal and success.

Directed by John Rando, the Broadway production stars Roger Bart as Doc Brown, Casey Likes as Marty McFly, and a talented ensemble cast including Evan Alexander Smith, Liana Hunt, and Nathaniel Hackmann. The creative team includes Chris Bailey (choreography), Tim Hatley (sets and costumes), and Gareth Owen (sound), among others.

Fans have until January 5 to experience the 88 mph musical adventure on Broadway before it takes off to new heights around the world.
