‘Tammy Faye’ Broadway Musical Set for Debut with Star-Studded Cast

The eagerly anticipated Broadway musical ‘Tammy Faye’ has announced its lead casting and creative team, marking a significant milestone as it prepares to grace the stage of the newly renovated Palace Theatre. The production, transferring from its successful run in London, is slated to begin previews on October 19, with an official opening night scheduled for November 14.

Katie Brayben and Andrew Rannells are set to reprise their acclaimed roles as the televangelist power couple, Tammy Faye Bakker and Jim Bakker, roles they originally inhabited at the Almeida Theatre in 2022. Brayben’s portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker previously earned her an Olivier Award, while Rannells received a nomination for his compelling depiction of Jim Bakker.

The musical boasts a distinguished creative pedigree, featuring a score composed by the legendary Elton John, with lyrics by Jake Shears. The narrative, crafted by James Graham, promises to delve into the complex and colorful lives of the Bakkers. Direction by Rupert Goold and choreography by Lynne Page are expected to bring this compelling story to life with vibrancy and depth.

The production team also includes Tom Deering, responsible for orchestrations, arrangements, and additional music, alongside Mark Dickman for orchestrations. The visual and auditory experience of the musical will be enhanced by Bunny Christie’s set designs, Katrina Lindsay’s costume creations, Neil Austin’s lighting design, Nick Lidster for Autograph’s sound design, and Finn Ross’s video contributions. Casting for the Broadway run is managed by C12 Casting’s Carrie Gardner and Jullian Cimini.

‘Tammy Faye’ will be the first full production to occupy the Palace Theatre following its extensive renovation, signifying a new chapter for the historic venue. The musical’s journey from the London stage to Broadway underscores its powerful narrative and the exceptional talent involved in bringing the story of Tammy Faye Bakker to a new audience. Theatergoers can anticipate a production that combines compelling drama with the hallmark musical prowess of Elton John and Jake Shears.
