Star-Studded Revival: Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler to Lead ‘Romeo and Juliet’ on Broadway with Music by Jack Antonoff

Broadway is set to welcome a new production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ starring Emmy winner Kit Connor and Golden Globe recipient Rachel Zegler, with performances beginning in the fall of 2024. The production, which will also mark the Broadway debut of Grammy-winning musician Jack Antonoff as the composer, will be directed by Sam Gold in a yet-to-be-named theater.

This fresh take on Shakespeare’s tragedy promises a vibrant and modern approach, with Sam Gold at the helm. Gold, known for his innovative direction, aims to blend traditional themes with contemporary resonances, especially pertinent as the production coincides with the presidential election period, emphasizing themes of youth, hope, and frustration.

The play will feature Sonya Tayeh’s choreography, enhancing the storytelling with dynamic movement, and will explore the intense and tragic journey of the young lovers, Romeo and Juliet, played by Connor and Zegler respectively. The director described the play’s theme as a poignant reflection on youthful impetuosity and the harsh realities of love and conflict.

In addition to the excitement on stage, Rachel Zegler is also gearing up for her role opposite Gal Gadot in the anticipated live-action adaptation of ‘Snow White,’ featuring music by Pasek and Paul.

Details about further cast members and ticket availability will be announced soon, with casting responsibilities being handled by Taylor Williams. This production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is entirely independent of the Jamie Lloyd Company’s upcoming revival in London’s West End, which will feature Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.
