Shakespeare’s Globe Reveals Winter 2026/27 Season

Shakespeare’s Globe has announced its winter 2026/27 season, with a programme spanning Shakespeare history plays, Chekhov, new writing and a returning family musical.

Artistic director Michelle Terry has described the season as “a season of debuts”, with several productions appearing at the Globe or in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse for the first time.

The season opens on 6 November 2026 with Julius Caesar, directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins, who returns to the Globe following Ghosts. Shakespeare’s drama of power, betrayal and political violence will receive its first staging in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, running until 14 February 2027.

From 15 January to 10 April 2027, the Globe will present The Seagull, marking the first time Anton Chekhov’s play has been staged by the company. The production reunites director Caroline Steinbeis and translator Rory Mullarkey, following their 2025 staging of Three Sisters. Inspired by Hamlet, the production will explore art, love, ambition and disappointment.

Shakespeare’s rarely performed history play King John will follow from 20 February to 11 April 2027. The production will be directed by Olivier Award nominee Jaz Woodcock-Stewart, making her Globe debut.

The season will also feature the world premiere of The Animals Come to the Table by Timberlake Wertenbaker. Running from 11 December 2026 to 24 January 2027, the new play imagines members of the animal kingdom confronting humanity over environmental destruction. The work has been developed from the Globe’s anonymous new writing initiative Burnt at the Stake, or the Whole of the Truth.

For families, the Globe will bring back its musical adaptation of Pinocchio, following its acclaimed 2025 premiere. Directed by Sean Holmes, with book and lyrics by Charlie Josephine and music and lyrics by Jim Fortune, the production will run in the open air Globe Theatre from 28 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.

Beyond the main stage programme, the Shakespeare and Race Festival will return throughout October with performances, talks and research events. The programme includes Pineapple, a new work by Anne Odeke presented by the Globe Young Company, a work in progress presentation of Samurai Othello by New Earth Theatre, and discussions exploring Shakespeare, race and global performance.

The Globe has also announced an expanded education programme for professional theatre makers, alongside family events, guided tours and youth workshops. The storytelling series Telling Tales will return with authors including Joseph Coelho, Sita Brahmachari, Rob Biddulph and Terry Deary.

Terry said the season would bring audiences “politics, provocation, passion, and pleasure”, while welcoming both new work and rarely seen classics into the Globe’s winter programme.

Tickets go on sale to patrons on 30 June, friends on 8 July, and the general public on 14 July.
